Helping Your Baby Sleep Independently
using Gentle Proven Methods for Restful Nights & Happy Days
What is Sleep Training?
Teaching your baby to fall asleep independently, without needing external assistance such as feeding, rocking, or being held, is a crucial skill that will benefit them throughout their life. If children aren't taught this skill early on, they may face sleep difficulties as toddlers and even into adulthood. Self-soothing is a key component of effective sleep training, which helps them learn to regulate their sleep patterns.
Just like eating healthy, learning to sleep independently is one of the most important skills parents can teach their children. While there are many methods for sleep training, consistency is the most essential factor in achieving success.
On average, infants need about 17 hours of sleep in a 24-hour period. Studies have shown that nearly 40% of babies are sleep-deprived, which can negatively impact their physical and emotional development. This is why sleep training is vital—not just to make life easier for parents, but to meet one of the baby’s most fundamental needs: quality sleep.
5 Long-term Benefits of Sleep Training
Sleep training goes far beyond providing immediate relief for sleep-deprived parents. It sets the foundation for a lifetime of healthy sleep habits and emotional well-being for your baby. When babies learn to sleep through the night and self-soothe, they not only rest better, but also develop critical skills that support their growth and development.
Investing in sleep training is investing in your child’s future well-being, helping them thrive physically, mentally, and emotionally for years to come.
-
Well-rested babies have the energy and mental clarity to engage with their environment and absorb new information. Quality sleep promotes brain development, improving memory, problem-solving abilities, and cognitive function.
-
Babies who sleep well are better able to manage their emotions. They tend to be less fussy, more content, and emotionally resilient. These early skills in emotional regulation can extend into toddlerhood and beyond, helping children manage stress and develop a more positive temperament.
-
Sleep is vital for physical growth. During deep sleep, your baby’s body produces growth hormones and strengthens their immune system. A consistent sleep schedule supports healthy growth, helps prevent illness, and promotes overall well-being.
-
When your baby sleeps well, the entire family benefits. Parents can enjoy more quality time together, feel more rested, and manage daily challenges with greater ease. This leads to stronger, healthier family relationships.
-
The skills your baby learns through sleep training — such as self-soothing and independent sleeping — are invaluable. These habits provide the foundation for long-term healthy sleep patterns, making it easier for them to adjust as they grow, from toddlerhood to adolescence and beyond.

The JOY of Sleep Method
Recommended for Babies Less Than 12 Weeks Old
This method is ideal for sleep training when starting with a baby as a blank slate. By establishing a routine early on and anticipating all of their needs, there’s no reason for crying. A consistent daily routine sets the foundation for the baby to learn self-soothing and creates a sense of predictability, allowing them to feel safe and secure. Rather than waiting for the baby to signal their needs, it is the parent’s role to meet those needs before the baby becomes overtired, stressed, or hungry.
This no-cry approach must be implemented within the first month of life, which is when healthy sleep habits are easiest to teach. We provide each parent with a tailored daily schedule that aligns with the family’s routine and the baby’s individual needs. Having used this method successfully for over 20 years, I now call it "The Joy of Sleep Method." It works effectively for singletons, twins, triplets, and more. A more detailed explanation of this approach will be provided during the initial consultation.

Nap Training Method
Recommended for Babies 12 Weeks and Older
For babies who haven’t been introduced to The Joy of Sleep Method, we focus on teaching self-soothing techniques, starting with naps, as these shorter sleep intervals provide a good learning environment. During nap time, we use controlled crying to help the baby develop self-soothing skills. Self-soothing is an essential life skill, as it allows babies to sleep through the night independently. The younger they are when they learn this, the easier it is for them to master. Once learned, this skill will serve them for the rest of their life. A more detailed explanation of this method will be provided during the initial consultation.

Praise from Happy Parents
“Joy is incredible and took my almost 2-year-old who was waking up multiple times a night to sleeping 12 hours straight in a matter of days. She was always available when I had a question and I can’t recommend her enough! My husband and I are sleeping for the first time in two years and it is life-changing.”
— Katie F.
“Joy has changed our lives!! If I could give every mom in the world her number I would. Joy’s sleep training method had my daughter sleeping through the night in just 6 days! I couldn’t believe it. She is so positive and has been able to walk our family through every step of the process.”
— Hailey W.
“We started sleep training our son at 5 months old with Joy’s guidance. We started from waking all night and co-sleeping out of desperation; a week of consistency with the program and our baby was sleeping through the night, and is even happier since he’s finally getting adequate sleep. If you’re thinking about doing it, do it!”
